Regency squares by day, the city's queer heart by night: St James's Street bars, cabaret rooms and where to eat before all of it.
The brief
Kemptown does two jobs perfectly. In daylight it is cream Regency terraces, quiet enclosures and the best sea view walk in the city. After dark it is St James's Street, and St James's Street is the reason a lot of people moved here.
Where to eat
Wolfox Coffee Kitchen for the morning after. Suriya's Thai Kitchen for the pre-night dinner that soaks up the night. A curry house on the eastern end for the one at midnight.
Where to drink
The Marlborough for theatre upstairs and a proper pub downstairs. The Plotting Parlour for cocktails in a room the size of a living room. Sidewinder for a beer garden that always has space when nowhere else does. Then Charles Street's late floors.
The morning after
Kemp Town Enclosures, then the Undercliff walk east. The sea does the apologising for you.
