The brief
Hanover is a hill of terraced streets east of the Level with more pubs per resident than anywhere sensible. Locals call it Muesli Mountain, affectionately. The climb is real, the payoff is the view from the top of Elm Grove.
Where to eat
Open Bakery first thing, before it sells out. Bocana for small plates and a glass of orange wine. Haus On The Hill for brunch. Moyos when the night has gone on.
Where to drink
The Geese, The Hanover, The Independent Taproom, The Fox on the Downs — the crawl writes itself, and it goes uphill, which is either good discipline or a serious error.
The walk
Up to Queen's Park, along the ridge, down to the sea. Do it at golden hour and you will understand why nobody who lives here moves.
